People may need to maintain ideal indoor temperature. The process of choosing the best cooling system for home depends on the type of AC unit they need for the space. The right air conditioner for a home depends on factors such as the size of the room people are cooling, and the type of home in which they reside. New construction typically has central air/HVAC, while older model homes may still use portable or window air conditioner units. Most manufactured or mobile homes use swamp coolers. Ductless air conditioners are like mini AC units that cool with variable-speed fans. 

The first thing to do is measure the square footage of the room to determine proper room size. Multiply the floor’s length by its width. The square footage of a room determines what BTU guidelines to use for a room size AC unit. Once they decide what type of AC plan to install, determine the necessary features such as remote control operation, energy saver switch, sleep mode, timer, etc.

Floor mounted units are ideal for buildings constructed with fragile material such as glass. 

Portable AC units are mobile units on wheels that can be moved from room to room. They are a good choice for temporary remote cooling, bathrooms, and even kennels. They are also quick to set up. 

Swamp coolers are less expensive than conventional central AC and are typically used in mobile and manufactured homes. 

Central air conditioning is a permanent option preferred by most homeowners, and expensive to purchase and install. This is the best choice if they have a large home and want to cool multiple rooms at one time. Utilizing modern HVAC technology, programmable thermostats can be coupled with central air conditioners for a smart home system.
